Within both the global and local Juice markets, consumer preferences are shifting from conventional Juices to novel products that are healthier, as well as more exciting and appealing, especially among younger consumers, in terms of flavour. As a result, the trend of combination flavoured Juice blends is moving to the forefront of Juice innovation, resulting in the introduction of a variety of new and innovative Juice flavour blends aimed at refreshing the Juice market, ensuring players remain relevant, and ultimately giving consumers the Juice-bumps.
Insight Survey’s latest South African Juice Industry Landscape Report 2023 carefully uncovers the global and local Juice market, based on the latest intelligence and research. It describes the latest global and local market trends, innovation and technology, drivers, and challenges, to present an objective insight into the South African Juice industry environment and its future.
In 2023, the global Juice market is estimated to generate revenue of approximately US$116.8 billion. Furthermore, as per the graph below, the global Juice market is forecast to increase by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.7% between 2023 and 2027, to reach approximately US US$140.1 billion by 2027.
Globally, consumer preferences for new and exciting Juice flavours are leading to innovation in terms of combining different flavours, to create new and interesting products that contain various natural ingredients with added health benefits. For example, several Juice bars in Chicago, United States, are creating spicier Juice flavour dimensions, including combining cayenne peppers, hemp seeds, and spirulina, with traditional fruits and vegetables.
Additionally, in Austria, players are focusing on newer and more defined flavoured profiles to position Juice as an anytime drink, not just for breakfast. Interestingly, Austrian Juice brand, Austria Juice, specifically attributed its latest blended flavour product launches to directly meeting increased consumer preferences for products that combine fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other plants.
Furthermore, global Juice manufacturer Kokomio LLC announced the launch of its new pressed guava and guanabana flavours, that are blended with coconut, pineapple, and passion fruit. In addition, global Juice giant, Tropicana, also added two new products to its pressed Juice range, by combining strawberry and banana; and pineapple and pink guava.
This trend is also manifesting locally, with many new combination-flavoured Juice products squeezing into the South African market. For example, The Juice Kitchen recently launched an exciting line of new Juice health shots, that combined different fruits, vegetables and spices, which also are aimed at health-conscious consumers. Some of these products include ‘The Brain Boosting Shot’ and ‘The Hot and Spicy Flu Shot’, amongst others.
In addition, Rhodes Quality also recently launched three new flavour combination Juice products. In particular, these products included ‘Mediterranean Medley’, ‘Orange & Passionfruit’, and ‘Apple & Cherry’ combinations. Moreover, this new range was inspired by the South African summer, and the company indicated that it intended for its consumers to pair these products with their favourite summer activities.
Relatedly, to expand appeal amongst adult consumers, there is a growing trend of combining alcohol with Fruit Juice in new products, which has been gaining traction locally and globally, especially as combining alcohol with Fruit Juice, rather than Carbonated Soft Drinks, is often seen as a healthier alternative. Companies that have recently released alcoholic Juice and Fruit Nectar products include New Belgium Brewing, Wormtown Brewery and Simply Spike.
